How Legacy Prosthetics & Orthotics Made the Leap to Nymbl

Russ Molina
Owner and President
Legacy Prosthetics & Orthotics is exactly what the name implies, a practice built on decades of dedication. What began with Russ’s grandfather, who lost his leg at Iwo Jima and returned home to start making prosthetics, has grown into a four-location O&P powerhouse serving the Coachella Valley and Southern California.
Third-generation practitioner Russ took full ownership in 2018, modernized the brand, and set his sights on growth.
By 2024, Legacy was generating approximately $4.5 million in annual revenue and still climbing. But for more than a decade, the practice had been running on a legacy platform that hadn’t kept pace with the world around it. As Russ put it: the software was surviving, not thriving. His practice needed a platform that could say the same.

A System Stuck in 2007
The practice went paperless in 2012 with this legacy system, a forward-thinking move at the time. But by 2024, the software felt like logging into Microsoft Office 2007 in a world that had moved on. For more than ten years, Russ watched the O&P industry evolve while his practice management platform stood still.

“Over the past 10 years, we saw no evolution of the software. It felt like they were surviving, not doing their due diligence to make sure we were thriving. It just made no sense.”
The inefficiencies were real. Clinical workflows required jumping around charts. Fab tracking was fragmented. Reporting meant wrestling with spreadsheets and pivot tables. And with four locations, a growing staff, and revenue on an upward trajectory, the cracks in the system were becoming harder to ignore.
Russ’s business partner Jose had flagged Nymbl four or five years earlier. They could both see the potential. But the bigger Legacy grew, the more daunting the transition seemed — until the math finally tipped the other way.

“At the rate we were growing, if we didn’t do it now and tried three to five years later, it would have been ten times harder. We had to get full buy-in from top to bottom.”
A Decision Built on Buy-In
The switch didn’t happen overnight, and that was by design. Our team didn’t just pitch a product. We showed up repeatedly, built trust, and helped Russ create the conditions for success.
Before go-live, Russ brought his entire staff together for a dedicated training session. The final four hours were spent with Nymbl to preview what was coming. The reaction was immediate.
Legacy launched with their Orange County office first. In hindsight, Russ says that’s his only regret, not doing all locations at once. Once the team in OC got rolling, there was no question the rest of the organization needed to follow.

“Once we saw their successes, we’re like — why are we waiting? It took my staff from June to August to be proficient. We implemented OPIE in 2012 and it took four years to get efficient. Nymbl did it in two months.”
Clarity, Efficiency, and Data That Actually Works
The day-to-day difference has been immediate and measurable. Where their legacy system required dancing around a chart, Nymbl puts everything in one place — one prescription, one work order, one workflow. Clinical documentation now follows a clean compliance checklist. Russ doesn’t approve a note until the order is placed, the work order is created, and the back team has started fabrication.
Perhaps the biggest transformation has been in how Russ now runs his business. Before Nymbl, he operated on gut feel and bank account balance. Today, he logs into QuickSight every single day.
The data tells a clear story. Monthly prescription volume that once hovered around 284–297 has climbed consistently to 400+ per month. Average cash collection time is 26 days. The allowable-to-posted ratio runs at 87–90%. And all of that is visible in real time, from any device, at any location.
Same Staff, More Revenue
One of the most striking outcomes at Legacy is what hasn’t changed: the staff headcount. Despite revenue growing significantly over the past four years, Russ hasn’t needed to add people. Nymbl, combined with their own AI integrations, has allowed his existing team to do more, without burning out.
The team’s satisfaction reflects this. Getting 20+ people to adopt a new platform is no small feat. For Legacy, staff went from skeptical to proficient in under two months, a process Russ credits directly to Nymbl’s onboarding team, account managers, and ongoing support from their success rep.
Looking ahead, Legacy is set to implement
Nymbl's RCM services, a move that Russ sees as the next lever for growth. Currently, billing and posting consume close to half the working capacity of two key staff members. Moving that work to Nymbl’s RCM team would free those employees to pursue higher-value, revenue generating activities: following up on complex cases, building referral relationships, and for one team member who is himself a bilateral amputee, becoming a patient advocate in the field.
