Reducing Claims Denials with Nymbl Systems

How ēlizur swapped their set of five management platforms for Nymbl Systems and dramatically increased productivity while improving their bottom line.

At-A-Glance
  • Ēlizur has been a musculoskeletal solutions provider for 30 years throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
  • With five existing software platforms to manage, Nymbl Systems was the answer to ēlizur’s workflow inefficiencies.
  • Nymbl Systems’ automated appointment confirmation feature was efficient enough to eliminate 40 hours of labor a week, allowing for resources to be reassigned within the company.
  • Ēlizur saw a five percent reduction of denials in claims processing during their first month using Nymbl Systems in conjunction with Waystar.

ēlizur’s Challenge
Since beginning business in 1993, ēlizur has forged a path to become an industry leader in musculoskeletal solutions by challenging the status quo. While many stock and bill practices simply manage inventory for clinics, ēlizur revolutionized the industry by providing clinics with their own clinical specialist to assist in continuity of care. Ēlizur even created its own business management software, MyOrthoMD, which has been acquired by DonJoy/Enovis and renamed to MotionMD   Previously, ēlizur used a combination of platforms to manage business: MotionMD on the front end, Brightree for billing, Microsoft 365, FileMaker®, and 50,000 Excel spreadsheets. Aaron Calla, Manager of Orthotics and Prosthetics, and Scott Huber, Director of Clinical Operations, realized that to scale ēlizur’s share in new markets, they would need to seek out a more efficient business management software.     “Those five platforms couldn’t communicate with one another,” Calla says, “So, everything was a manual process. And every time you have a manual process you have unnecessary labor, and you will have unnecessary risk that's involved, right? Because when you have to do a manual transfer, or every time we do something manually, you have that margin of error that's going to take place and you're never going to be perfect.”    The challenge they were trying to overcome wasn’t a simple one. The software system would need the ability to move through multiple workflows: patient intake, appointment reminders, patient records, billing, claims management, and product inventory.

The Solution     At an on-site ABC accreditation visit, a peer remarked to Calla that their existing management software was inefficient for ēlizur’s applications.    "... Just tell me what’s the best software you’ve ever seen," Calla said, "Let’s start there. And Nymbl is what she told me.”    While searching for new software to compare with Nymbl Systems, Calla had created a list of what he needed the software to do to keep up with ēlizur’s growth. At the top of that list was visibility. Neither Calla nor Huber were disappointed by Nymbl Systems in this regard.    “The clerical productivity report and different reports that Nymbl already has canned are phenomenal. Most importantly, the prescription summary page, particularly the V2 data that we’ve had access to, is phenomenal,” said Huber. “I love Nymbl.”     Once partnered, ēlizur was able to work with Nymbl Systems to refine features of the software and even provide input on new features.    One of the features that ēlizur had developed in MotionMD was the ability for providers to “batch sign” SWOs at the end of the day. This feature is in the works in Nymbl Systems, thanks to input from ēlizur.    “The batch sign is a huge thing,” says Huber. “Rather than signing multiple SWOs at the end of the day, providers have the ability to do it once and acknowledge they’re checking it. Now, the feature is 99% of the way there.”     “We could tell the commitment was there. This partnership, as Aaron said, is phenomenal… they wanted to earn our business. We could tell that we wanted to vice versa work with them.” New Paragraph

The Results      After migrating their records from their five platforms to Nymbl Systems, ēlizur saw results quickly in claims management and efficiency.    An immediate outcome was a five percent reduction of denials in claims processing. Additionally, Nymbl Systems’ automated appointment confirmation feature was efficient enough to eliminate 40 hours of labor a week, allowing for resources to be reassigned within the company.
“Hindsight is always 20/20,” said Huber. “Looking back, we should have made the transition a longtime ago.” New Paragraph

Nymbl Systems, a leading provider of cloud-based practice management software for orthotics and prosthetics (O&P), complex rehabilitation technology (CRT), and home medical equipment (HME) providers, today announced the appointment of Brian Holtmeier as Chief Financial Officer. Holtmeier brings more than 20 years of financial leadership experience across enterprise and emerging growth companies, including his recent role as CFO of Protenus, a healthcare compliance analytics company. While at Protenus, he led the company through its Series C and D fundraising rounds and a successful acquisition by Bluesight in early 2024. Prior to that, he spent over 15 years at IBM, where he served as CFO of the Security Systems business unit and the acquired marketing automation firm, Silverpop. “Brian’s experience driving financial strategy and scaling infrastructure at the intersection of healthcare and technology makes him an ideal fit for Nymbl,” said Josh Lau, founder and CEO of Nymbl Systems. “Beyond finance and accounting, Brian brings deep operational expertise spanning legal, compliance, IT, and people operations—critical areas as we continue to grow and serve more providers nationwide.” The announcement comes on the heels of Nymbl’s recent strategic investment from Frontier Growth and Tamarind Hill, positioning the company to accelerate innovation, scale operations, and expand its leadership in the O&P, CRT, and HME markets. Nymbl’s cloud-based software leverages modern technology—including AI—to automate key workflows like clinical documentation, patient intake, purchase ordering, and revenue cycle management. Trusted by hundreds of providers across the U.S., Nymbl helps practices streamline operations, increase efficiency, and improve patient care. "Joining Nymbl at this stage is an exciting opportunity to help scale a company that’s truly changing how specialized healthcare practices operate," said Holtmeier. "The team has built something impressive — modern technology, a strong customer base, and a clear sense of purpose. I’m eager to support its continued growth and help deepen our financial and operational foundation as we move into the next chapter."
